The collection box is installed next to the vending machine for recycling PET bottles, etc., but a new form has been introduced nationwide to put other garbage from below so that it cannot be thrown away.

In the collection boxes for PET bottles and empty cans next to vending machines, about 30% of the discarded garbage is occupied by garbage such as cigarette butts and empty lunch boxes.

In response to this, industry groups have created a new collection box with a repositioned slot to eliminate waste disposal.

The new box is designed to hold PET bottles and empty cans from below.

The conventional one has a slot facing upward or sideways, making it easier to dispose of other garbage.

In addition, the diameter of the slot has been reduced to make it almost the same as a PET bottle, and a binding band can be attached to the lid to prevent it from being opened.

Industry groups are planning to install this collection box in Shizuoka and Aichi prefectures on a trial basis from next month, check the effect, and then introduce it in earnest nationwide from next fall.

Kazuhiro Shiraishi, general manager of the vending machine department of the National Association of Soft Drinks, said, "In the industry, the collection box is for collecting resources, and I would like to call on it not to throw away garbage."
