It would only have taken Audi engineers five months to develop this prototype, which was designed for one thing only: to win the Dakar.

The brand had managed to keep the secret, since until recently rumors announced a 100% electric vehicle.

But the fact is that the challenge was too great, some stages of the event exceeding 500 km, and the vehicle also having to face many unforeseen circumstances.

Hybrid

The hybrid solution was therefore chosen.

The system consists of a gasoline engine which has proven its worth, since it competed until recently in the German DTM Touring Championship, associated with an electric motor per axle, and a "central" electric motor acting as the vehicle. generator.

Everything is capable of developing up to 670 hp, but it remains to be seen what power will allow the regulations of the Dakar 2022. And proof that Audi is playing for the win, the brand has enlisted the services of two drivers who are not really novices: Carlos Sainz (3 victories in the Dakar) and the absolute record holder of the event, Stéphane Peterhansel, who has accumulated 14 victories.
