With many people refraining from traveling during the summer vacation, such as the declaration of an emergency in Tokyo and Okinawa, major airlines are strengthening their online tour services using robots that can be operated remotely. ..

Of these, "ANA Holdings" will start a new online tour service on a trial basis for one month from August.

Dedicated robots will be placed in four locations, including the aquarium in Kagawa Prefecture and the museum in Kanagawa Prefecture, so that participants of the online tour can freely look around the museum by remotely controlling it from their personal computers.

We are planning to start full-scale service from this autumn because we can talk with local guides through robots.

Akira Fukahori, CEO of ANA's subsidiary, which is planning the tour, said, "It is still difficult for families to travel, but I want them to feel free to use it from home and enjoy it."

Regarding online tours, Japan Airlines is also strengthening services such as enjoying the view from the cockpit of a passenger plane.

As travel demand continues to decline due to the effects of the new coronavirus, airlines want to aggressively expand services that allow them to feel like traveling at home and use them as a source of revenue in the future.
