"Dubai Electricity" supports sustainable development through the "Solar Decathlon"

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, in partnership with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the US Department of Energy, is organizing the Global Competition for Universities to Design Solar-Based Homes (Solar Decathlon - Middle East).

This competition contributes to supporting Dubai's capabilities to reach the first ranks in the world, and maintain its global leadership position in the field of sustainability, competitiveness and green economy, through the establishment of a group of smart and sustainable homes that won the first round of the competition, and their construction in a number of development projects in the emirate.

In culmination of the competition’s role in supporting the authority’s exceptional efforts in the field of sustainability, the Betty Cool team from Bordeaux University, France, began implementing the smart and sustainable home, which was presented by the university’s team that won third place in the first round of the competition in the most prominent development projects in Dubai.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, stressed the competition's role in supporting sustainability, reducing carbon emissions, protecting the environment, and encouraging creativity and innovation, in line with the "Dubai Urban Plan 2040", launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which draws an integrated map of urban development, its main axis is sustainable development, to make Dubai the best city for life in the world, and the competition plays an important role in consolidating the position of the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Dubai, as a center for creativity and innovation, and an incubator For innovators, to develop innovative solutions that contribute to facing the effects of climate change, and to involve youth in the sustainable development process.

Al Tayer added: “After two years have passed since the first session of the Solar Decathlon - Middle East competition, organized by DEWA under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, and held for the first time in the Middle East region.
