According to the US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the American Internet company Amazon may not have to pay the agreed global minimum tax of 15 percent.

"It depends on whether the company reaches profitability or not, and I'm not sure about that," Yellen said on Thursday in an interview with the American television broadcaster CNBC when asked whether the agreement of more than 130 states would reduce taxation rights would redistribute for Amazon.

The states had agreed on a global minimum taxation of 15 percent in order to also draw on large international corporations for tax purposes. States like Germany hope that this will not only bring greater fairness to taxes but also higher income. The new rules should come into force from 2023, which is considered ambitious and not yet secured.
