The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that the number of new water connections doubled between 2016 and 2020, as the number of new water connections reached 67,768 in 2020, compared to 31,108 new connections in 2016, an increase of about 118%. . The total number of water connections increased from 666,000 connections in 2016 to 911.5 thousand connections by the end of May 2021, an increase of about 37%, as the growth in water demand is attributed to the high pace of new projects in various sectors of the economy.

He pointed out that the authority maintains a production surplus to meet the reserve margin standard specified for the peak demand for water, and the production capacity of the authority of desalinated water reaches 490 million gallons per day, while the peak demand for water reached 378 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
