In South Africa, the largest riots since democratization have not subsided, affecting Japanese companies operating locally.

Of these, Toyota Motor Corporation, which has a car assembly plant in Durban in southeastern South Africa, has been shut down since the 12th of this month.

According to the company, it is a measure to ensure the safety of local employees while the riots have not subsided, and not only factories but also some dealers have stopped operating.

This factory produces about 80,000 SUVs = multipurpose sports vehicles and pickup trucks annually, and is a base for export to Europe as well as South Africa.

The time to resume operations is undecided so far.

In South Africa, in addition to Toyota, there are also production bases for Nissan Motors and Isuzu, so there are concerns about the impact.
