The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced yesterday that it has completed 96.4% of a project to extend main water transmission lines in several areas in Dubai, with a total length of about 36.6 km and a cost of approximately 256 million dirhams.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, confirmed that the Authority adopts the latest technologies in the field of production, transmission, distribution and control of electricity and water networks, noting that it has made tangible achievements in developing the water network to enhance its efficiency and reliability and raise the quantities of water flow to meet the needs of comprehensive development. And to meet the growing demand, in addition to increasing the reserve stock of water.

Al Tayer added that these efforts contributed to reducing the percentage of losses in water transmission and distribution networks from 42% in 1988 to 5.1% currently, which is one of the lowest rates recorded in the world, as this percentage reaches 15% in North America.

For his part, the Executive Vice President of the Water and Civil Engineering Sector at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Eng. Abdullah Obaidullah, explained that the project to extend the water transmission lines includes the extension of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road;

From the water pumping station in the Hassyan complex to Dubai Investments Park and Al Maktoum International Airport;

From Al Nakhli Reservoir to Al Awir Roundabout along Dubai Street - Hatta and Al Muhaisnah, and from Marghem Wells to Dubai Al Ain Street, the project is expected to be completed during the month of August.
