Deutsche Bahn has submitted a new offer to the GDL train drivers' union and intends to prevent the announced strikes.

“Our offer today is a clear signal for the collective bargaining agreement.

Together we have to be able to avoid a summer strike, ”said Bahn Personnel Director Martin Seiler on Thursday.

The collective bargaining partners have a high level of responsibility, especially in the transport infrastructure, and must exhaust all means to find a solution without strikes.

With the new offer, the railway is now offering wage increases in two steps: 1.5 percent on January 1, 2022 and 1.7 percent on March 1, 2023 with a term until June 30, 2024. The railway made appointments for new discussions In mid-July.

The GDL had declared the previous talks to have failed and announced strikes from August if the railway did not move.

The GDL recently demanded wage increases of around 3.2 percent, as in the public sector.

These should be implemented in two steps - plus 1.4 percent this year and plus 1.8 percent next year.

In addition, the employees should receive a corona bonus of 600 euros.

According to the railways, the total demands of the train drivers add up to about three times what the GDL rejects.
