The growth rate of service exports exceeded imports by 27.6 percentage points, driving the service trade deficit to drop by 67.3% to 114.49 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 235.59 billion yuan.

Compared with the same period in 2019, the import and export of services fell by 11.5%, an average drop of 5.9% in two years, of which exports increased by 17.3%, with an average growth of 8.3% in the two years; imports fell by 27.3%, with an average drop of 14.8% in the two years.

  Service imports and exports grew rapidly in May.

In May, my country’s total service imports and exports amounted to 373.45 billion yuan, an increase of 5.5% over the same period last year and a decrease of 8.1% month-on-month; of which exports were 165.6 billion yuan, an increase of 7.7% year-on-year, and a decrease of 17.4% month-on-month; imports were 207.85 billion yuan, an increase of 3.7% year-on-year. An increase of 1% month-on-month.

The fastest growing area is transportation services, with an increase of 39.1%.

  The proportion of knowledge-intensive service trade increased.

From January to May, my country's knowledge-intensive service imports and exports amounted to 898.99 billion yuan, an increase of 11%, accounting for 46.4% of the total service imports and exports, an increase of 3.1 percentage points.

Among them, the export of knowledge-intensive services was 493.33 billion yuan, an increase of 14.4%, and accounted for 54.1% of the total service exports; the areas where exports grew faster were personal culture and entertainment services, telecommunications, computer and information services, and intellectual property royalties, which increased by 32.6 respectively. %, 22.6%, 14.7%.

Imports of knowledge-intensive services amounted to 405.66 billion yuan, an increase of 7.3%, accounting for 39.5% of total service imports; the areas where imports grew faster were financial services and insurance services, which increased by 20.7% and 13.2%, respectively.

  The import and export of travel services continued to decline. At present, countries continue to adopt strict measures to restrict the movement of people across borders, and the impact of the epidemic on the import and export of travel services is still continuing. From January to May, my country's import and export of travel services was 307.07 billion yuan, down 36.9%, of which exports fell by 39.1% and imports fell by 36.7%. Excluding travel services, my country's service imports and exports increased by 18% from January to May, of which exports increased by 24.3% and imports increased by 11.4%.
