According to the EU Commission, whose flight was canceled in the corona pandemic should get their money much easier than before.

The Brussels authority published a list of demands on the airlines on Monday.

Among other things, it urges the airlines not to advertise refunds in the form of a voucher as the only option and to avoid delays in repayment.

In addition, new rules are being considered with a view to coming crises, said Transport Commissioner Adina Valean.

A report by the European Court of Auditors on the same subject is due to be published on Tuesday.

How the Brussels authority will fare is still unclear.

What is already certain, however, is that, according to the auditors, passengers are not as well informed about their rights as they should be. According to the commission, a decision was made on the catalog of demands published on Monday after numerous complaints from consumers.

It does not contain any binding specifications.

Higher penalties required

The Green MEP Rasmus Andresen welcomed the initiative. Particularly in view of the uncertainties for the coming holiday season due to the delta variant of the corona virus, strong protection for consumers is needed, he said. But this also requires "a systematic punishment of legal violations and higher penalties for non-compliance".
