A decrease in the prices of 7 commodity and service groups during April 2021

The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center revealed that the rate of inflation in consumer prices in the country decreased on an annual basis during April 2021 by 0.54% compared to the same month in 2020.

In its "April 2021 Inflation" report, which was issued yesterday, and covers the change in the prices of 12 major consumer goods and services, the center stated that the general index reached 106.22 points in April 2021, compared to 106.80 points in April 2020.

According to the report, the decrease in annual inflation came as a result of the decline in the prices of seven major commodity and service groups: “housing, water, electricity and gas” by 3.3%, which constitutes 34.1 percent of consumer spending, and “food and beverages” by 3.5 percent, constituting 14.3% of consumer spending. Consumer spending, “clothes and shoes” by 7.2%, and it constitutes 3.2% of spending, and “communications” by 0.4%, which constitute 5.4% of spending, and “household fixtures and equipment” by 0.1% and it constitutes 5.6% of spending, then “ The Tobacco Group, whose prices decreased by 0.5%, and the Group of Miscellaneous Goods and Services, whose prices decreased by 2.2%, and constitutes 6.3% of spending.

At the same time, the prices of five other commodity groups increased: “Transportation group” by 9.3%, “Recreation and culture” by 1.4%, “Education” by 1.4%, “Hotels and restaurants” by 0.4%, then “Services group” Health”, whose prices increased by 0.3%.

On a monthly basis, the inflation rate increased by 0.4% during April 2021 compared to March 2021 before.

The rise included all emirates of the country, at varying rates, ranging between 0.2 and 0.7%.
