Yemen: fighting rages around Marib province, key northwestern region

Despite numerous calls for a ceasefire, war rages on in Yemen.
There have been more than 110 dead in the last three days in the province of Marib, in the north-west of the country.
This region is the scene of violent clashes between government forces and Houthi rebels.

It is an oil-rich province and a city in the crosshairs of Yemen's Houthi rebels, who in February 2021 launched an offensive to take Marib, the only city in the province of the same name that still escapes them in the northern part. - west of the country where the Houthis - supported by Iran - dominate, including in Sanaa, the capital, conquered in 2014.
We know nothing of the fate of civilians
The clashes in recent days have been violent, claiming casualties among combatants on both sides.
There is no information at this stage on possible civilian casualties, in a country where the population is however severely affected by the conflict.
According to sources there, the Houthi rebels carried out simultaneous attacks on several fronts.
For their part, the government forces present in Marib are supported by bombings from the coalition commanded by Saudi Arabia.
US calls for end to war, to no avail
Joe Biden's United States has stopped supporting this coalition, calling for an end to the war, to no avail.
The UN special envoy, Martin Griffith, spoke a few days ago before the Security Council in New York to discuss the failure of his three years of diplomatic efforts as if nothing could silence the weapons in Yemen.
The conflict is ravaging this already very poor country on the Arabian Peninsula.
With tens of thousands of deaths according to NGOs and a population on the brink of widespread famine, the United Nations has called the situation in Yemen the worst ongoing humanitarian crisis in the world.
