Samsung Display's labor union went on strike, led by union officials, following a breakdown in wage negotiations. This is the first strike in the Samsung Group since Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong declared the abolition of non-union management last year, and both the business and labor circles are closely watching as it may affect other Samsung affiliates.

When the wage negotiations with the management broke down since the beginning of this year, the union went on a partial strike in which six executives stayed overnight in a tent for 24 hours.



The union, which demanded a basic wage increase of 6.8%, and the management, who proposed 4.5%, could not narrow their differences of opinion, and ran parallel to issues such as the realization of risk benefits.

This strike is the first since the founding of Samsung Display and the first strike of Samsung Group since Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong declared the abolition of non-union management last year.



Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong promised three labor rights in an apology to the public in May last year.
