During his first press conference, two days after the announcement of his victory,

Ebrahim Raïssi

made a firm speech against the United States.

Asked whether he would agree to meet US President Joe Biden if US sanctions against Iran were lifted, he curtly replied "no".

Regarding the nuclear negotiations currently taking place in Vienna to revive the 2015 agreement, he called on the United States to implement its commitments.

“

I seriously suggest that the US government quickly honor their commitment, lift all sanctions and show that they are sincere.

Regional issues and Iran's ballistics program are non-negotiable.

 "

Ebrahim Raïssi added that the Iranian negotiating team was continuing discussions in Vienna and had already reported to it on the progress of negotiations with the major powers.

These discussions should resume in ten days in the Austrian capital.

The arrival in power of the new president, who is due to take office in about 40 days, could push Iran to take a stronger position.

According to various sources, the lifting of sanctions against Ebrahim Raïssi himself, the office of the Supreme Guide or the Revolutionary Guards, the elite Iranian army, is part of Tehran's demands.
