 For the fifth year in a row, the UAE topped the countries in the Middle East and North Africa region in the Global Competitiveness Yearbook 2021 report, issued by the Global Competitiveness Center of the International Institute for Management Development in the Swiss city of Lausanne, where the UAE ranked ninth in the world to maintain its position among the countries 10 most competitive in the world.

Despite the circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, the United Arab Emirates has advanced over countries such as the United States, Finland, Canada, Luxembourg, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, to remain the only country in the Middle East and North Africa that has succeeded in booking its position within the Big Ten club. For five consecutive years, since it joined the top ten list in 2017, as part of the report issued by one of the most important specialized institutions in the world in this field.

According to the results of the report for this year, the UAE ranked first globally in 22 indicators, while it ranked among the top five globally in 62 indicators, and among the top ten globally in 120 indicators, out of a total of 335 indicators covered by the report this year.

Report methodology.

In its methodology, the Global Competitiveness Yearbook report relies on questionnaires collected by one third and statistics and data provided by countries by two thirds. The country’s performance was also distinguished in the main axes of the report, as it ranked third globally in the axis of government efficiency, and eighth globally in the axis of business efficiency, and ninth globally in the axis of economic performance, as it maintained the 28th position in the axis of infrastructure.

Outstanding leaps.

The country also recorded distinct leaps in this year's report from last year in many indicators in the report, as it rose to the first place globally in the growth index of commercial services exports, achieving a jump of 28 ranks at once from last year's report, and ranked first in the world in Trade balance index, with a jump of 15 ranks, and in the index of flexibility and ability to adapt to global changes, the country came in fourth place globally, achieving seven ranks, and the country achieved fourth place globally in corporate resilience, advancing two ranks from last year’s report, and also jumped in the growth index The number of Internet users ranked 26 at once, ranking ninth in the world, and the percentage of tourism revenues advanced by 8 ranks, with the UAE ranked ninth globally in this indicator.
