A reformist candidate and three ultra-conservative candidates withdrew from the race.
Now there are only three candidates in the running, but the two main ones are the moderate
Abdolnasser Hemmati
and the conservative Ebrahim Raïssi, who heads the judiciary.
Abdolnasser Hemmati
who was president of the Central Bank is supported by part of the reformers, in particular the former president Mohammad Khatami.
He was very combative during the televised debates.
He has multiplied calls to moderate voters, disappointed by the economic and political record of Hassan Rohani's government, to mobilize in order to prevent the conservatives from taking all the levers of power.
For his part,
Ebrahim Raïssi
is supported by all power.
He promised sweeping changes by prioritizing the underprivileged and middle classes.
The conservatives have indeed multiplied the promises to change the lives of the poorest directly affected by more than 50% and the fall in the value of the Iranian currency.
But according to the Minister of the Interior, participation should be less than 50%, a sign of the discontent of a large part of the population.
