Monitors fires before and after they occur

DEWA files a new patent for a smart fire alarm

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer: “We are harnessing innovation and the latest technologies to enhance the authority’s distinction as one of the best service institutions around the world.”

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has registered a new patent for the “Smart Fire Alarm for Low Voltage Panels”, which was developed by the Authority to protect against fires that may occur in electrical systems.

The device monitors fires before and at the moment of their occurrence, and works to identify the factors causing them, especially in cables, electrical conductors and connection points, which contributes to avoiding carbon dioxide emissions and interruptions in electricity supply, as well as preserving lives, equipment and property.

The invention was registered in the name of the Authority at the Austrian Patent Office.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said that DEWA provides a positive, healthy and safe work environment that encourages innovation, and unleashes the energies of employees to raise the level of individual and institutional efficiency, in accordance with international best practices, enabling us to keep pace with rapid changes, and actively contribute to Forecasting and creating the future, in line with the "Dubai 10X" initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which aims to make Dubai 10 years ahead of the world's cities, through innovative disruptive technologies.

Al Tayer stressed that the authority derives its vision from the words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum: “Innovation today is not an option but a necessity, not a general culture but a work method, and governments and companies that do not renew or innovate lose their competitiveness and condemn themselves to retreat.”

Al Tayer continued: "We are working to harness innovation and the latest technologies to enhance the authority's excellence and leadership position, as one of the best service institutions around the world, in addition to supporting the innovation process in the UAE."

The new device supports the Authority's tireless efforts to achieve the highest standards of health and safety in its various operations, within the framework of its responsibility towards its employees, customers and society in general.

These efforts culminated in the authority’s obtaining in 2020, the safety and life protection code “101 NFPA”, granted by the “UL” International Organization for Security and Safety Sciences, thus becoming the first service institution in the Middle East region to achieve this global recognition.

It also won, for the 13th time, the "Sword of Honor in Health and Safety" award presented by the British Safety Council.
