Starting next month, in July, some consumers are likely to pay more even if their electricity usage remains the same.

This is because the discount for the mandatory use of housing deductions applied to general households with low power consumption will be cut in half, and the discount rate for charging electric vehicles will also be reduced to less than half.

The range of actual price fluctuations may be even greater depending on whether or not to raise electricity rates in the third quarter, which is decided on the 21st.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Korea Electric Power Corporation today (15th), electricity rates for general households using less than 200 kWh per month will increase by 2,000 won from next month.

This is because the discount for the mandatory use of housing deductions applied to these households has been reduced from 4,000 won per month to 2,000 won per month from next month.

Contrary to the original intention of the introduction of the mandatory use deduction system, it has been pointed out that benefits are concentrated mainly on upper-middle-income and single-person households.

Accordingly, the government decided to keep only the benefits for the underprivileged, gradually reduce the benefits for ordinary households, and then completely abolish it in July next year.

The government estimated that about 9.91 million households will be affected by the reduction in the discount amount and the effect of the electricity rate increase.

Electric vehicle charging rates will also rise slightly from July.

From next month, KEPCO has decided to lower the basic rate discount rate for charging electricity from 50% to 25%, and also lower the electricity rate discount rate from 30% to 10%.

As a result, the usage fee borne by consumers will also rise.
