"Economy": 70% growth in the number of intellectual works during 2020
The Ministry of Economy announced that the intellectual property sector achieved a qualitative leap in the number of works during the past year 2020, after recording a 70 percent growth compared to 2019, which represents a new achievement added to the list of national achievements of the United Arab Emirates and consolidates its global position as a preferred and incubator for innovators, creators and pioneers. The ministry indicated that the number of intellectual works has so far reached 24,317 intellectual works, but it recorded its highest level ever during the year 2020, after its number reached 2772 intellectual works, while the number of intellectual works during 2019 reached about 1632 works, recording a growth of 32 percent. percent, compared to 2018, when the number of works was 1,233, while the number of intellectual works registered since the beginning of this year until now has reached about 900.
These indicators reflect the efficiency of the UAE’s approach and the directives of its wise leadership, in developing the intellectual property environment, creativity and innovation, to enhance its contribution to the global human and cultural heritage, and to highlight the unique heritage identity of the UAE, which combines originality, heritage and loyalty to the legacy of the ancients, modernity, development and leadership of the path of technical innovation globally.
The Ministry stressed that intellectual property works play an important role in providing and enabling an environment conducive to innovation in order to establish a framework that enables the exchange and sharing of new technologies across the world, in light of the Ministry’s work in partnership with the concerned authorities within the country to develop laws and legislations regulating the intellectual property sector in its various activities and fields in accordance with Global best practices.
