• It is still possible to apply for summer jobs around Montpellier.

  • Several sectors are hiring en masse, including the hotel and catering industry, which are particularly struggling to find candidates this year.

  • Other sectors are also hiring, such as commerce or construction.

It is still possible to find a summer job in Montpellier (Hérault). There are even still "many, many seasonal job offers," says Joseph Sanfilippo, the territorial director of the Hérault employment center. And in particular in the hotel and restaurant industry, “in constant search” of labor, in particular clerks, cooks or waiters. "In this sector, offers are arriving en masse: nearly 1,000 are now available directly on pole-emploi.fr", he continues.

Jacques Mestre, the general president of the Union des métiers et des industries de l'hôtellerie (Umih) of Hérault, confirms that hoteliers, cafetiers and restaurateurs need to hire for this summer.

And they have a hard time finding.

"We are breaking all records this year," laments this restaurant owner from La Grande-Motte.

It even happens that we are in difficulty because we cannot find staff to provide the service.

We're trying to get out of it.

Some reduce terraces, for example.

"It is probably a bit the fault of the Covid-19, continues Jacques Mestre.

Perhaps some people, for example, who "stopped working" because of the crisis, have not resumed or have moved to other sectors, he wonders.

Private beaches, services, shops ...

Private beaches, too, are hiring. Joël Ortiz, the boss of Voile Bleue, in La Grande-Motte, and representative of the Association of developed beaches in the region, also confides having some problems, like other colleagues, to find candidates. "La Voile Bleue, there is no problem," he emphasizes. But in another beach, which I have at Grau-du-Roi, I have trouble finding people for the kitchens and for the dining room. For the bar and the beach, on the other hand, it's fine. "Joël Ortiz assures to see" a lot of offers going on social networks. This year is a disaster. "

But it is not only the hotel and catering industry that are looking for talent for this summer.

Pôle emploi identifies, around Montpellier, some 1,400 offers of personal services, 1,245 in commerce and 1,100 in construction.

And there are, among them, "opportunities for job vacancies to be seized," continues the director of Pôle Emploi in Hérault.

In agriculture, particularly viticulture, there is also demand.

In all of these sectors, now is the time (or never) to apply.

The Regional Youth Information Center of Occitanie is organizing a special summer job recruitment campaign on June 22, via video on Info Jeunes Online.
