[Commentary] On May 29th, the 2021 spring meeting of the International Finance Forum (IFF) was held in Beijing.

The forum adopts a combination of online and offline methods, inviting about 500 people including former foreign politicians, heads of international organizations, business and business representatives, experts and scholars to participate in the forum.

The guests discussed the theme of "Post-epidemic era: Global governance and international cooperation".

[Explanation] United Nations Secretary-General Anthony Guterres stated that the new crown pneumonia epidemic has upended people's lives and affected the process of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

In order to effectively deal with the impact of the epidemic, it is necessary to narrow the global vaccination gap and provide more support to developing countries on the verge of the debt crisis.

  [Concurrent] United Nations Secretary-General Guterres

We must urgently fill the vaccine gap.

We must unite to produce and distribute enough vaccines for everyone, especially for those backward low-income countries.

We must provide more support to developing countries on the brink of the debt crisis.

I have called on the Group of 20 (G20) countries to further extend the "Debt Repayment Suspension Initiative" to 2022 to help all countries in need, including middle-income countries.

[Explanation] IMF President Kristalina Georgieva said that currently, the scope of vaccination is continuously expanding, and countries are still providing policy support, and the prospects for economic growth are improving.

The International Monetary Fund has raised its forecasts for global economic growth in 2021 and 2022, and predicts that between now and 2026, China's average contribution to global economic growth will exceed a quarter.

[Concurrent] Georgieva, President of the International Monetary Fund

We have raised our global growth forecasts for 2021 and 2022 to 6% and 4.4%, respectively, because people are gradually adapting to new ways of working.

China's growth forecast for this year has been revised up to 8.4%, which is also due to the increase in net exports.

We also predict that between now and 2026, China's average contribution to global growth will exceed a quarter.

[Explanation] At the opening ceremony, Zhou Xiaochuan, chairman of the International Finance Forum (IFF) and vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, also shared his views on how to strengthen global cooperation to promote economic recovery during the epidemic.

He said that trade is the main driving force of global economic growth. We should firmly maintain a rule-based, transparent, non-discriminatory, open and inclusive multilateral trading system, support WTO reforms, and enhance the voice of emerging market countries and developing countries. Influence.

China will work with the international community to promote the formation of more inclusive global governance and more effective multilateral mechanisms.

[Concurrent] Zhou Xiaochuan, Chairman of the International Finance Forum (IFF) Conference and Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference

China actively participates in WTO reforms and unswervingly supports the WTO as a credible multilateral trading system.

At the same time, multilateral free trade agreements such as the RCEP signed by the 15 Asia-Pacific countries last year will help promote the liberalization and facilitation of global trade and investment, and promote the recovery of global trade and the reshaping of trade rules.

China will more actively participate in bilateral and multilateral regional cooperation and promote high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road". China's sustained development and opening up will inject strong impetus into the recovery of the world economy.

[Explanation] It is reported that the International Finance Forum has successfully hosted the 17th Global Annual Conference, aiming to gather consensus on global financial cooperation and call on the international community to maintain and practice multilateralism.

This forum will also host 13 thematic discussions, covering areas such as finance, global anti-epidemic, and global climate cooperation.

During the conference, the forum will also release the "International Financial Forum 2021 China Report".
