Millennium Hilton Seoul Hotel, located at the foot of Namsan Mountain, Seoul, is a 5-star hotel opened in 1983.

After the coronavirus, foreign tourists stopped visiting, and subsidiary businesses such as ceremonies were contracted, which intensified management difficulties.

It is known that the sale negotiations between the largest shareholder,'CDL Hotel Korea' and a Korean asset management company, are in the final stage.

Hilton Hotel avoided a firm answer saying, "The head office does not confirm it," but the industry sees a high possibility of selling it.

As it is said that it will be converted into an office building if it is sold, hotel staff are very worried.

[Won Ho-jun/Cooker at Millennium Hilton Seoul: I also cut wages, so I decided to stabilize my employment, but when the talk about the sale suddenly comes out, everyone feels anxious and thrown out on the street.] When the

business is closed and the purpose is changed, the employment succession is in effect. It is difficult.

[Chief Choi / Millennium Hilton Seoul Union Chairman: I heard that the location conditions are so good that I demolished and built a new building for sale. It feels like a sale in any form is a dismissal.]

This is not the only hotel struggling with the prolonged coronavirus.

Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel notified the layoffs of 79 people, saying that restructuring is inevitable due to a deficit of 30 billion won last year, and the union is fiercely opposing it.

Le Méridien Seoul and Sheraton Seoul Palace Gangnam Hotel, which were already sold, will be demolished and residential facilities will come in, but mass unemployment has also become a reality.

As there is a prospect of continuing attempts to buy hotels with good location and develop them for residential use, the anxiety of hotel industry workers is growing.
