According to preliminary estimates by UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, at least 1,000 homes have been destroyed by Israeli shelling in Gaza.

Most of the families who have lost their homes are being taken in by relatives, but the poorest now live in UNRWA schools.

In nearly ten years, this is the third time that Abu Saad has lost his house, destroyed by an Israeli strike.

I am burning from the inside, because I am helpless,

 " he confides to us.

There is nothing I can do about all of this injustice.

In the middle of the night, I had my children around me screaming, terrified of the bombing.

And then the roof collapsed on us.

Under the rubble, I heard my son begging me to get him out of there, but there was nothing I could do

The leg in a cast, the little one was finally rescued.

Now the family lives in a

We would love to have a house, and live there happily

 "

I can't take this misery anymore,"

Abu Saad continues.

Living in a school is not a solution.

We would love to have a house, and live there happily.

Instead, we end up here, waiting in line to go to the bathroom or to take a shower.

But unfortunately we have nowhere to go.

We spend our lives enduring conflicts and wars.

 "

Twenty-eight families now live in this one school.

Several other dozen are hosted in another UNRWA school.
