Despite the strengthening of security measures by the Lebanese army and UNIFIL peacekeepers,

incidents are increasing on the border with Israel

.

On Tuesday, May 18, demonstrations of solidarity with the Palestinians again took place across the country.

Dozens of young people climbed the border fence where they planted Palestinian and Hezbollah flags.

Israeli soldiers fired tear gas canisters to prevent crowds from crossing the border, injuring protesters.

Rocket launch ramps

Earlier in the day, a Lebanese army patrol circulating near the border line came under Israeli fire which left no casualties.

The Lebanese army had announced the discovery of seven rocket launchers after the firing, Monday evening, of six projectiles towards the north of the Galilee from the south of Lebanon.

The Lebanese have lived for a week to the rhythm of events in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

A vast movement of solidarity has developed in the country but voices are raised to warn against a slippage that would drag Lebanon, bruised by successive crises, into a devastating conflict.
