Hiroaki Nakanishi, chairman of the Keidanren, has decided to retire because his health condition has made it difficult for him to continue as chairman.

Mr. Nakanishi is 75 years old.

While serving as chairman of Hitachi, Ltd., a major electronics manufacturer, he became chairman of Keidanren in May 2018.



He was ill and was hospitalized, and an examination revealed that he had lymphoma.



After that, he was discharged from the hospital and returned to work, saying that his symptoms had subsided and became stable, but in July last year he was hospitalized again and announced that his lymphoma had recurred.



While receiving medical treatment at the hospital, I attended government meetings online and responded to media coverage, but at a regular press conference on the 19th of last month, "I am feeling ill due to the side effects of treatment. I hurriedly canceled it.



According to people familiar with the matter, Mr. Nakanishi decided to retire because his condition had worsened since last month, making it difficult for him to continue as chairman.
