In Israel, outgoing Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu fails to form a government.

Following the Israeli legislative elections last March, Benjamin Netanyahu, whose party won the poll, was given the task of forming the executive, but the legal deadline of 28 days that was given to him. granted expired last night without it being able to achieve its goal.

The Israeli president therefore entrusted this task to the opposition leader Yair Lapid.

Forming a government is also proving a difficult task for Yaïr Lapid.

Like Benjamin Netanyahu, the centrist leader does not have his fate in hand either.

His party is certainly the second political power in the country, but it does not have the necessary majority in the Knesset, the Israeli parliament to govern.

Yaïr Lapid therefore needs allies to form a viable coalition that will bring him to power.

Among its potential supporters, leaders of the right and the far right.

Ideologically, nothing brings them together except their desire to dethrone outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It remains to be seen whether they will manage to overcome their differences to govern together.

A setback for Benyamin Netanyahu

Benyamin Netnayhu, tried by all means to stay in power.

We lost it, after 28 days of intense negotiations, he suffered a stinging failure.

The leaders of the right and the far right on whom he could have relied have decided to turn their backs on him.

But beware, nothing has been done yet.

If opposition leader Yair Lapid also fails to form a government, the country could head for new parliamentary elections, fifth in just over two years.

Benjamin Netanyahu has just lost a battle, but his reign is not over for all that.
