Economic Daily-China Economic Net, Beijing, May 3 (Reporter Wang Yichen) The National Energy Administration recently announced the energy situation and renewable energy development in the first quarter of 2021.

Relevant data show that the overall balance of energy supply and demand in the first quarter, and the acceleration of the development of the clean energy industry, strongly and effectively supported the comprehensive economic and social recovery and high-quality development.

In the first quarter of this year, the electricity consumption of the whole society increased by 21.2% year-on-year, and the growth rate was 27.7 and 15.7 percentage points higher than that in 2020 and 2019 respectively.

The relevant person in charge of the National Energy Administration stated that there are three main reasons for the growth of electricity consumption in the whole society: First, the acceleration of industrial production has become the main driving force for the growth of electricity consumption in the whole society.

In the first quarter, industrial electricity consumption increased by 23.9% year-on-year, and its contribution to the growth of electricity consumption in the whole society was as high as 71%.

The second is that extreme weather occurs frequently, driving the rapid growth of residential electricity consumption.

The domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents increased by 4.7% year-on-year and 7.9% year-on-year.

Third, under the "New Year in Place" initiative, the consumer market was active during the Spring Festival and the demand for electricity increased significantly year-on-year.

The installed scale of renewable energy in my country has steadily expanded.

In the first quarter, new installed capacity of wind power, solar power, hydropower, and nuclear power totaled 12.83 million kilowatts, which accounted for 43.4% of the total installed power capacity, an increase of 2.8 percentage points from the same period last year.

As of the end of the first quarter, my country's installed renewable energy power generation capacity reached 948 million kilowatts.
