DP World announced yesterday the launch of the global electronic wholesale platform “DUBUY.com”, starting in Rwanda in Africa, with future plans to expand throughout Africa and the world.

The group stated in a statement that "DUBUY.com" would add digital commercial corridors to the actual commercial channels established by "DP World" across the African continent through its investments in ports, terminals and logistical operations.

The group stated that "DUBUY.com" relies on cooperation with local companies and the Rwandan government to help provide small and medium-sized Emirati companies access to global markets, by taking advantage of the integrated supply chain services in the DP World Group, to meet export orders and receive goods.

She pointed out that the platform also provides international and local companies with the opportunity to find new business partners in Africa and serve them, thus opening up a wide scope for access to fast-growing markets.

By combining the DUBUY.com platform with the physical logistics infrastructure of DP World and its data-based logistical solutions, a number of major challenges facing the growth of e-commerce will be solved, including the reliable execution of transactions, secure financial transactions and the movement of goods.

Akamanzi explained that the DUBUY.com platform is the first dedicated online store to serve exporters, importers and officially licensed manufacturers in Rwanda, in which the DP World Group has already invested through a logistics center that provides container handling services, cold chain and customs warehouses.

For his part, Executive Director of Operations at Dubai World Trade, Mahmoud Al Bastaki, said that “DUBUY.com represents a new and innovative model of partnership with the UAE by strengthening the current capabilities in Rwanda, and opening businesses and markets mainly through enabling trade and achieving Innovation ».

It is noteworthy that the electronic markets via the Internet are an important opportunity to achieve economic growth in Africa, which currently registers less than 0.5% of the total global e-commerce, according to the United Nations Conference on Development and Trade.

In 2018, trade between the UAE and Rwanda reached 1.6 billion dirhams (about $ 434.8 million), in light of the growth of trade between them, over the past decade, within the framework of bilateral relations and the expansion of economic ties between the two countries.
