Emirates Global Aluminum announced yesterday the start of the operation of the first part of the expansion project of the company's smelter in the Taweelah area. 26 new reduction cells in the «Production Line 1» in Taweelah will be strengthened to produce about 30 thousand tons of aluminum annually.

The company stated in a statement that it is working on building 66 new reduction cells, to expand all three production lines at the company's site in Al Tawila.

She explained that the project will increase production capacity in Taweelah by about 78 thousand tons of aluminum annually, noting that the expansion of "Production Line 2", and then "Production Line 3", will start later this year.

She added that despite the challenges created by the repercussions of the "Covid-19" pandemic, the overall completion rate of the project reached 70%, according to the specified timetable.

"This project comes to expand our production capacity in Al Taweelah, and as part of our continuous efforts to enhance production efficiency and invest in high-return growth opportunities," said the CEO of Emirates Global Aluminum, Abdul Nasser bin Kalban.

He added, "While the world needs aluminum to rebuild better after (Covid-19), this expansion will contribute to providing more aluminum that we need in our daily life."

He mentioned that about 950 people are currently working on the expansion project of the Al Taweelah smelter, pointing out that more than 2.1 million work hours have been accomplished so far with world-class safety performance, with no work injuries recorded.

It is noteworthy that, like all of EGA's aluminum production lines, the company uses its own aluminum smelting technologies, which have been locally developed in the UAE.

The new reduction cells in “Line 1 and Line 2” use DX technology, while the new reduction cells in “Production Line 3” are the company's “DX + Ultra” technology.

2803 reductive cells

Emirates Global Aluminum explained that with the start of 26 new reduction cells, the total number of reduction cells for the company in both Jebel Ali and Al-Tawila increases to 2803 cells, as the company produces one out of every 25 tons of aluminum produced worldwide, and it is considered the largest producer Of the highest quality aluminum in the world.
