The Russian pipelayer Akademik Chersky on Tuesday, April 27, began work on laying the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in Danish waters, the press service of the company - operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG project, reported.

“After successfully passing sea trials, the Akademik Chersky vessel has started pipe-laying work in the exclusive economic zone of Denmark today,” RIA Novosti said in a statement.

It is specified that the Fortuna barge is also continuing to lay the gas pipeline - in accordance with the previously obtained permits.

The relevant information RT was confirmed by Nord Stream 2 AG.

According to the latest data released by the company, as of March 31, 2339 of the 2460 km of the total length of two lines of the Trans-Baltic gas pipeline (more than 95%) were laid.

Thus, 121 km of pipes remained to be laid.

As a reminder, Nord Stream 2 is two strings of a gas pipeline with a length of 1,230 km each and a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters per year.

The pipes run along the bottom of the Baltic Sea through the exclusive economic zones and territorial waters of five countries: Russia, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Germany.

Commenting on the current state of construction of Nord Stream 2, member of the State Duma Energy Committee Boris Gladkikh stressed that there can be only one forecast for the project - the gas pipeline will be completed.

“There will be attempts to hinder the project.

We see this both now and from past events.

It is clear that there are those who are not interested in the presence of our gas in Europe.

Because this is competition.

Because gas comes at a competitive price, and it is beneficial to some European countries, "the deputy said in an interview with RT.

He stated that the project is supported in Berlin.

In addition, according to the parliamentarian, Nord Stream 2 fits well into the logic that is built around the use of this gas in Europe.

“Therefore, those who wish to supply shale gas, of course, understand that in terms of economics they will definitely lose to pipeline gas.

Which is much more profitable both in terms of reliability and price, ”the deputy concluded.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak expressed confidence that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be completed in 2021.

“It will be this year, but the builders themselves will better tell the exact date,” Novak said on April 23, answering journalists' questions.

In mid-April, Pavel Zavalny, the head of the State Duma Committee on Energy, suggested that the construction of the gas pipeline could be completed in the summer of 2021.

“We very much hope that by the end of the summer all work on the project, on commissioning, gas supply will be completed.

And by the end of the summer there is hope that Germany can get the first gas via this pipeline, ”TASS quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, at the end of March, the United States announced that it intends to increase sanctions pressure on the project.

Earlier, American politicians openly declared their negative attitude towards Nord Stream 2.

In particular, Washington called the project "a threat to the energy security of Europe."

According to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the American side informed Germany of its position on the construction of Nord Stream 2.

According to him, Washington considers the laying of the highway "a bad idea."

He recalled that sanctions have already been imposed on the project participants, and this activity may continue in the future.

Also at the end of March, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltengberg spoke about his position on Nord Stream 2.

He stated that the alliance could not work out a common position in relation to the project, since there are both opponents and supporters of its construction in the block.

According to Alexander Frolov, Deputy Director General of the Institute of National Energy, Europe is primarily interested in the implementation of the project.

“The project is even more profitable for Europe than for Russia.

Europe is the recipient of gas.

The only thing we can lose if the project is not implemented is money.

And gas is an energy carrier.

These are raw materials, this is what lies at the heart of the energy and energy industry, "he said in a conversation with RT.

According to him, taking into account the preservation of the current dynamics of construction, if nothing interferes with the project, it will be possible to complete the construction of both lines by the end of summer or at the beginning of autumn. The expert believes that in this case, the commissioning of the highway is possible in the fourth quarter of 2021.
