According to Acoss, the body that heads the Urssaf, hiring for more than a month in the private sector increased by 6.4% in the first quarter of 2021. This increase is especially visible in industry, far ahead of the tertiary sector and construction.

DECRYPTION

This is a welcome note of hope in an economic context heavily impacted by the coronavirus epidemic.

While the restrictive measures could be gradually eased in the coming weeks, in the first quarter, hiring for more than a month started to rise again in the private sector.

These hires increased 6.4% in the first quarter.

A figure to be compared with -14.5% of the previous quarter marked by the second confinement.

This rebound, recorded in January-February-March, is that of non-temporary hires, whether they are on CDI or CDD for more than a month.

Recruitments are picking up again mainly in industry

It is the Acoss, the organization which heads the Urssaf, which has just published these figures.

The Urssafs are in the front row when it comes to analyzing the labor market since they receive hiring declarations and collect social security contributions.

In the first quarter, the recovery in hiring was twice as strong in small companies with less than 20 employees than in larger companies. And it is especially in industry that things are picking up again, with an increase of 11%, while the tertiary sector and the construction industry have seen their hiring increase on average only by 4.5%.
