The Xiaomi Mi 11 is an incredibly fast mobile phone with an incredibly strong display for a crisp 800 euros.
Now Xiaomi is expanding the series upwards and downwards.
It gets cheaper with the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G and the Xiaomi Mi 11i.
But the absolute head of the family is the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra with particularly extensive camera equipment and an additional display on the back.
"Computer Bild" tested it.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has a thick camera
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is a large top model without being too thick - if it weren't for the camera.
With 164.3x74.6x8.4 millimeters (without camera) and a weight of 234 grams, the dimensions are still within reasonable limits.
But the approximately four millimeter thick camera module on the upper third of the back creates a bulge in the jeans pocket.

However, apart from its photo talents, the block also offers unexpected advantages: The symmetrical design ensures that the Mi 11 Ultra is noticeably inclined and tilt-free on the table.

The lower part of the Mi 11 Ultra looks pleasantly thin, but you can involuntarily touch the camera block with your index finger.
Some people may find that annoying, I had the feeling that I was holding the Ultra a little more securely with it.
The back is otherwise smooth and extremely slippery, as is typical of glass.
And because the Ultra only rests on the corner of the camera block and a wafer-thin strip of glass, it generates very little friction and uses every inclination to get away from it all.
Watch out!
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is waterproof

As is typical of the upper class, the fingerprint sensor is hidden in the display under the gorilla glass "Victus".
Alternatively, you can unlock using facial recognition.
Xiaomi describes the back as "Ceramic".
And then the data sheet reveals another small sensation: The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is the first Xiaomi mobile phone that is certified as properly waterproof and dustproof with IP68.
The highlight of the camera block, however, is the 1.1-inch small additional display in the camera area, which shows data such as time or charge status or allows selfies with the main camera, because it offers a preview with 126x294 pixels.

However, this idea is not entirely new.

With a double tap, when a message arrives or when you place the Mi 11 Ultra on the main display, the small screen is activated for up to 30 seconds and can also show a text that you can easily access in the associated menu via "Settings / Special functions / Rear display / Rear display motif ”and which changes its color over the course of the day if desired.
Gimmick?
Yes.
But that's great.
Mi 11 Ultra with Ultra OLED display
Xiaomi has given the Ultra a very slightly curved 6.81-inch OLED screen, which with its narrow edges takes up almost the entire front.
There are no differences to the normal Mi 11 in terms of the technical data of the screen, but that is not a problem because the Mi 11 display is currently one of the best mobile phone screens at all.
The 20: 9 OLED has super sharp 3200x1440 pixels and thus 515 ppi.
The screen refresh rate is 30/60/90/120 Hertz, depending on the requirements.
In the case of static image content, for example, at energy-saving 30 Hertz, for films at 60 Hertz, for games and when scrolling, 90 or 120 Hertz ensure a pleasantly fluid and sharp display.

Contrast and sharpness are top notch.
The ten-bit display reduces color transitions and supports HDR10 + video content.
The sampling rate for touch inputs is a super-fast 480 Hertz.
If you now set one of the four animated "super background" images, the unlocking process becomes a show.
Ultra camera with 120x monster zoom
On paper, the Mi 11 has the lens in front with its 108 megapixel camera, but the number of pixels doesn't say anything about the photo quality.
The Ultra uses a different camera set-up.
The main camera (f / 1.95; 85 degrees FOV, field of view / viewing angle) comes with an optical image stabilization and brings it to 50 megapixel (MP) resolution.
The ultra-wide-angle lens (f / 2.2; 128 ° FOV) is hardly inferior to that with 48 MP.
The difference in quality is just as small as with the OnePlus 9 Pro or the Oppo Find X3 Pro, which also rely on a high-resolution ultra-wide-angle sensor from Sony.

And then there is the zoom hammer: The telephoto lens also has optical stabilization and offers a five-fold optical zoom, which with the high resolution of 48 MP pumps up to a ten-fold hybrid zoom and with all the digital force to a 120-fold magnification can be so that only the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra can keep up with extreme magnification, which is not that thick.
The first impression of the photos: good, but not so great that the top camera phones really have to worry.
The Ultra spoils even more with possibilities and effects than just pure image quality.

The front camera (f / 2.2) in the display has a recording angle of 78 degrees and a resolution of 20 MP, whereby four pixels are combined in standard mode as with the other cameras.
The selfie camera is actually unnecessary due to the additional display, but many people would prefer to marvel at themselves on the large, great display.
Videos are saved in a maximum of 8K.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra: pace
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra contains the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, which is manufactured in a five-nanometer process and thanks to the X60 modem, the 5G cellular standard is already integrated in the chip.
In combination with the Adreno 660 graphics unit, the requirements for a high speed and record-breaking benchmarks are met.
The Mi 11 with the same configuration is no less than the fastest cell phone tested so far.
The Mi 11 Ultra adds up in the 3-D Mark Wildlife Benchmark with 5625 points even a few more points than the Mi 11 (5532).
Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra (5783; Exynos 2100), OnePlus 9 (5736; Snapdragon 888) and OnePlus 9 Pro (5828; Snapdragon 888) achieve even better values in this 3D-heavy benchmark.
In Geekbench 5 multicore, the Ultra again sets the tone with 3764 counters.
Equipment and storage
The Ultra is well equipped with twelve gigabytes (GB) of RAM (LPDDR5) and 256 GB of device memory (UFS 3.1).
The operating system is Android 11 with Xiaomi's MIUI 12.5 (Mi User Interface).
NFC is on board for Google Pay.
There is also Bluetooth 5.2.
The inconspicuous 2 after the point enables two headphones or Bluetooth boxes to be paired at the same time.
At most, there are gaps in the data sheet with the missing headphone jack and the missing memory expansion.

Dual SIM is on board, and both card slots can be 5G.
The stereo speakers were designed in cooperation with audio specialist Harman Kardon and sound good, but not in a way that makes the neighbors ring.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra with ultra-fast charge
The Mi 11 Ultra comes with a slightly larger battery compared to the Mi 11.
Instead of 4600 mAh it is 5000 mAh.
And the loading speed has also been increased.
The Mi 11 charges very quickly with a cable with up to 55 watts.
According to the manufacturer, the Mi 11 Ultra has 67 watts - even wirelessly!
The charging speed top values of the cable master OnePlus 9 and the wireless charging speed king OnePlus 9 Pro wobble.
If you don't even know what to do with the energy, you can also use the Mi 11 Ultra as a power bank and charge other devices with up to ten watts (reverse charging).

Conclusion:
We already know the outstanding speed and the strong display from the Mi 11. The Ultra is (luckily) not even bigger, but it comes with a thick telephoto lens and, for the first time, an IP certification, which the Mi 11 still lacks Has cost points in the test.
The additional display invites you to play, although the possibilities are quite limited. The play instinct can also be lived out through the numerous photo and film effects. The so-called
ceramic back is unfortunately only smooth.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra: price, colors, launch
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra appears in the colors Ceramic White and Ceramic Black.
The prices for the global version start at 1199 euros.
The exact start of sales is not yet known.
Xiaomi is officially speaking of the second quarter of 2021. That started on April 1st and will last until the end of June.
