The airport exhibition, which Dubai will host from 24 to 26 May next at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center, is the largest platform of its kind in the world to display the best contactless technologies to confront "Covid-19", and other advanced technology to enhance airport safety and security. However, decision-makers are concerned with how to face the pandemic and its challenges.

Daniel Qureshi, director of the exhibitions group at RED Middle East Exhibitions, which organizes the 20th edition of the Airport Show, said, “The pace of the trend towards a touch-free passenger experience at airports has increased rapidly after the pandemic, with the emergence of the role of many airports, including Dubai International Airport in this regard, while airport digital transformations and the latest innovations in terms of contactlessness will be at the heart of the upcoming exhibition experience. ”

"Dubai International Airport excels in terms of safety and security, with the increasing use of contactless technology, as it provides passengers with the opportunity to use their eyes to confirm their identity without the need to present any document," he added.

“This system helps control the spread of the coronavirus, as it does not require travelers from the airport to have any contact with other people, because it uses the biometric method, as the system only needs five to six seconds to complete the scanning process,” Qureshi said.

As a result of the "Covid-19" pandemic, airport operators are now facing new challenges to limit personal contact, reduce congestion and reduce shared access to dense touch surfaces, in addition to preventing passenger buildings from becoming potential grounds for virus proliferation.

It is noteworthy that biometrics has become the focus of investment, with 64% of airports targeting the launch of self-departure gates using biometrics and personal identification documents by 2023.

Contactless technologies have proven themselves a game changer, as revealed by a report published by SITA in 2020 on information technology insights in the field of air transport, while airports from now until 2023 are giving high priority to investment in contactless technologies.
