The interest of the Spanish owners of motorway concessionaires to
enter the Italian market is not new.
In 2006, Abertis, then in the hands of La Caixa, already attempted a merger with Autostrade, but the
opposition of the Italian Government chaired by Romano Prodi
led to the failure of the operation.
That government even changed the tariff framework so that the Spanish were not financially interested in the operation.
Now, the Abertis from ACS is back in charge.
