There is nothing from the gaming brand Razer that does not exist: Excellent notebooks, webcams, keyboards and mice have made the bright green Razer logo a sign of quality.

The manufacturer is now bringing the Anzu onto the market: smart glasses that give the wearer a wide range of capabilities.

Is it all just window dressing or really the last bit of skill?

The practical test of “Computer-Bild” demystifies all myths.

Razer sunglasses: Anzu blocks the rays

Assuming gamers really leave the basement, home office or office and expose their alabaster skin to the bright sun, Anzu glasses protect the eyes by blocking UV rays.

That's not bad, but they are still not real sunglasses.

The main task of the Anzu is different: the glasses are primarily aimed at people who work in front of the monitor all day and / or gamble all night and thus capture a lot of blue light radiation.

It is believed that this long-term exposure has a negative impact on health!

Gamers often struggle with sleep problems after long sessions in front of the PC.

Razer's Anzu filters out 35 percent of the blue light, the manufacturer promises.

If you order the glasses in the wrong size, you run the risk of looking like Harry Potter - like "Computer-Bild" editor Patrick Nowak

The question that arises is: does that even help?

Maybe it's a placebo effect, maybe not, but after a two-day practical test of eight hours each in front of the monitor, the eyes felt more relaxed than usual.

If work and hobby are linked to the monitor, glasses with blue light filters are a good thing.

But the Anzu can do more.

The Anzu has speakers and a microphone

The glasses connect to a notebook or cell phone, for example, not via magic, but via Bluetooth 5.1.

Thanks to the built-in loudspeakers, a microphone and several touchpads, you can make and receive calls without taking your mobile phone out of your pocket - tap the side of the glasses frame and the call is accepted.

That is convenient, the quality of the speakers is completely sufficient for this purpose - provided that you are at home.

The volume has to be turned up on buses and trains, and then everyone in the immediate vicinity can listen.

When playing music, the really weak bass is noticeable, techno or EDM lose their appeal here.

Anyone who downloads the app can at least play around with an equalizer: Pop and rock music can then be set a little better.

On the sides of the frame there are touchpads that are used to control the Razer Anzu

The battery lasts around five hours or a little longer, depending on the area of use.

Then the glasses have to be connected to the USB cable and recharge for several hours.

Gamers need hardware that is designed for their hobby.

This applies to PC components, but also to mouse, keyboard and headset.

The headsets from Razer beat the Anzu by far, because the latency-free gaming mode doesn't help either, the sound transmits faster.

But if you don't want to do without the blue light filter, you can wear the glasses and put your headset over your head.

Win win!

Razer Anzu: Good workmanship, but ...

The glasses are made entirely of high-quality plastic, come in different sizes and weigh between 43 and 48 grams. How well the glasses fit depends on the shape of the skull.

Trying on is advisable here because it is unclear whether the glasses can be adjusted by the optician.

Speaking of opticians: Razer works with Lensabl, where you can get cheap glasses with a filter function in your prescription that fit into your suit.

Whether you can get the glasses from America to Germany is another piece of paper.

The processing is therefore quite decent.

But one thing was unpleasant: When unpacking, there was an unparalleled chemical smell.

Fortunately, it wasn't the glasses that smelled like that, but the case.

After several hours of fresh air treatment on the balcony, the problem had largely vanished into thin air.

The glasses frame are quite large, but the glasses don't feel heavy

Conclusion:

glasses with a blue light filter are almost mandatory in the home office.

Gamers in particular benefit from this, because after work is before the game.

However, this is felt to be a truth.

But the Razer Anzu can do a lot more, it is also a rock-solid Bluetooth headset that has touch functions.

If you want to listen to some music on the side, you will not get the very best sound, but there is nothing in or on your ear.

Price and availability

The Razer glasses are not cheap, but 210 euros for a multifunction device that doubles as a Bluetooth headset and glasses is probably okay.

If you want to buy them, you can do so in Germany from April in the Razer online shop.
