A new iPhone in October?

A better digital camera before the vacation?

A new television set before the soccer World Cup?

A faster notebook for the next lockdown?

The manufacturers of electronic devices put new models on the market every year.

Consumers receive them gratefully.

Because they are faster, sharper, bigger or just better.

Electronics, it seems, have a short half-life.

What happens then is a tragedy.

Many old devices end up in the garbage.

These devices can still do a good job. A second life slumbers in them. The hobbyists call this upcycling and play new software on it or make small changes. This is how old things become useful again. Sometimes it's even very easy. WELT makes some suggestions.
