The grocery supplier Picnic is considering introducing a deposit on plastic bags.

The messengers of the online company, which always makes deliveries to customers with electric delivery vehicles, hand over the purchased goods in plastic bags to the customer.

“The recycling rate is already over 80 percent.

We are considering pushing the multiple use with the introduction of a deposit system, ”said Germany boss Frederik Knaudt WELT AM SONNTAG.

Picnic's Dutch parent company has been taking a deposit of 0.35 cents per bag for home deliveries for a long time.

The money will be refunded when you take it back or offset against the next purchase.

According to Knaudt, Picnic almost quadrupled its sales in Germany last year, which is well over 100 million euros.

At the moment, 50 to 70 new employees are being hired every week.

However, the rapid growth brings with it capacity problems.

“Not every customer could be served at all times,” said the manager.

The waiting list in Germany currently includes around 100,000 households.

It is also to be expected that one or two large distribution centers in North Rhine-Westphalia will go into operation this year.

"We are specifically looking for the Cologne / Bonn area," said the Germany boss.
