The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) announced yesterday that it has signed an implementation agreement with the Uzbek government to increase the production capacity of the wind power plant at the level of service facilities it is developing in the country to 1.5 gigawatts.

The agreement was signed during a high-level official ceremony held in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, to inaugurate the project, in the presence of the Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Sardor Umurzakov, the Uzbek Minister of Energy, Alisher Sultanov, and the UAE ambassador to Uzbekistan, Saeed Matar Al-Qamzi. It was attended by virtually the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, the UAE's Special Envoy for Climate Change and Masdar Chairman, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, and the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazroui.

The agreement to increase the production capacity of the plant was signed by the Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shokhrat Vavayev, the Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Sherzud Khojayev, and the CEO of "Masdar", Muhammad Jamil Al-Ramahi.

Sardur Uomurzakov emphasized that advancing the renewable energy sector in Uzbekistan greatly contributes to promoting sustainable economic growth and supporting efforts to combat climate change.

For his part, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber said: “In line with the directives of the wise leadership, and within the UAE’s commitment to contribute to limiting the repercussions of climate change, it is important to consolidate the principle of partnership and expand our efforts to enhance its positive effects on the world.”

Suhail Al Mazrouei added: “The agreement will enhance the existing cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates in the field of renewable energy.

As signatories to the Paris Climate Agreement, the two countries are committed to supporting all global efforts aimed at confronting climate change and its consequences.
