The total number of requests for re-registration of ownership of trademarks in the UAE reached 2088 during the first three months of this year, according to the latest figures issued by the Trademarks Department of the Ministry of Economy.

The large volume of trademarks whose ownership was re-established during the period from January to the end of March 2021 reflects the great activity in the sector, in conjunction with the return of growth to all economic and commercial activities in the country.

The list of trademarks that was re-registered at the end of last March includes a large group of trademarks belonging to international companies that take the UAE as a regional center for their business in the Gulf region and the Middle East in general.

These companies operate in various activities, primarily the commercial, energy and logistics sectors, in addition to the industrial and technology sectors, and other activities.

The monitoring of the sector’s activity showed that it maintained good growth rates throughout the first three months of this year, but last January was the most active in terms of the number of applications for re-registration of ownership of a trademark, which reached 777 according to official figures.

It is noteworthy that the package of incentives launched by the federal government during the past months contributed to the perpetuation of the trademark sector activity in the UAE.
