Since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, tea, silk, and porcelain from Hunan have been shipped to West Asia and Europe.

  According to Zhou Chongwang, chairman of the Hunan Tea Industry Association, Hunan has formed a multi-tea development pattern of "three-xiang, four-water, colorful tea fragrance". The tea industry has maintained the growth of tea farmers' income, enterprise efficiency, and fiscal tax increase for more than ten consecutive years. Leading industry for the achievement of poverty alleviation and the promotion of rural revitalization and regional economic development.

The influence of provincial public brands such as "Anhua Dark Tea", "Hunan Black Tea", and "Xiaoxiang Tea" has continued to increase, and the province's tea national-level leading enterprises have reached six.

  As of the end of 2020, the tea plantation area in Hunan Province reached 3.13 million mu with an output of 308,000 tons, an increase of 11.8% and 10% respectively year-on-year.

In 2020, the province will export nearly 50,000 tons of tea and earn 170 million U.S. dollars of foreign exchange (including border trade), basically achieving the development goal of 100 billion Hunan tea industry by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan.

  Tang Jianchu, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province, stated that Hunan will give full play to the advantages of multiple teas, adhere to brand leadership, marketing innovation, technological innovation and business integration innovation, and promote the combination of supply-side reform and demand-side management of "Colorful Xiangcha". The integrated development of the tea, culture, tourism, health and wellness industry will promote base facilities, production automation, product refinement, and quality standardization to provide new impetus for the prosperity of the industry and the revitalization of the countryside.

  On the same day, the meeting also commended advanced units and advanced individuals in the construction of Hunan's 100 billion tea industry in 2020.
