According to a survey, the majority of the 30 DAX companies rely on gender language.

Ten corporations stated that they use “gender-sensitive language”, and six more are planning to do so, as the anonymous survey by the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” and the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences showed.

Two companies announced that they had decided against it.

The other twelve did not respond even after repeated inquiries, as the "FAZ" reported on Thursday.

To justify this, all DAX companies that use gender chose the following answer: "The use of gender-sensitive language corresponds to our understanding of non-discriminatory interaction with one another." The other options that were not selected by any company were: "Expect customers, business partners or employees this".

Or: "The use of gender-sensitive language is a time phenomenon and is expected above all by the media and public observers."

According to the report, the two DAX companies that decided against gender language stated that they considered gender-sensitive language to be the wrong approach or not necessary, as they worked non-discriminatory in any case.

However, the introduction of gender had been discussed.

According to the FAZ, the language regulation is currently most widespread in internal communication with employees and in media work.

A total of nine DAX members said they used to gender in these areas.

All six corporations that want to gender in the future are also planning to do so in these departments.

In customer communication, i.e. in advertising or social media, and in contact with investors, five or six Dax companies responded to the questionnaire.

Five of the ten DAX companies that use gender state that they use “gender-neutral formulations whenever possible”.

The other five use the gender asterisk or the colon.
