“
A giant victory for the right and for Likud,
” proclaims Benyamin Netanyahu, who lays the groundwork for the future coalition.
“
It is clear,” he
adds, “
that the majority of Israelis want a right-wing government.
"
It is therefore the most plausible option.
A government which, in addition to Likud, would also include all the formations of the Israeli right, under the leadership of
Netanyahu
with a narrow parliamentary majority.
A problematic coalition in several respects, in particular because of the presence of deputies of Kahanist persuasion.
And also because of the demands of Naftali Bennett, the leader of the Yemina party who could demand alternation as head of government.
The anti-Bibi bloc did not achieve the score it wanted.
The list of
Gideon Saar,
one of the prime minister's main opponents, has collapsed.
Two other left-wing parties performed better than expected.
But there are still hundreds of thousands of votes to be counted under double envelopes, in particular those of the military and voters who were unable to travel due to the coronavirus crisis.
This could change the balance of power and pave the way for another option: new elections in a few months.
