Recently, retail outlets in Dubai and Sharjah witnessed extensive discounts on the prices of various types of vegetables, which focused on products of local origin.
Officials of companies trading and supplying vegetables and fruits told "Emirates Today" that the market is currently witnessing discounts, which are the largest in a long time, due to the abundance of the local product of vegetables, which was accompanied by the increase in supply of other varieties, and the flow of supply from different countries of origin, expecting the continued pumping Domestic products until the end of next April.

In detail, "Emirates Today", in a field tour of its outlets in Dubai and Sharjah, spotted extensive discounts on varieties of vegetables, which were concentrated in locally-produced products, such as green peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, and flat white cabbage.
Consumer Samir Hassan said that the expanded discounts on varieties of vegetables were concentrated in the "local" origin, pointing out that some vegetables are sold at a price close to one dirham per kilogram, after they were previously sold at prices ranging between three and four dirhams.
For his part, consumer Ahmed Abdullah stressed that the current reductions in some types of vegetables in the local market reduce the financial burden of families in terms of purchasing basic commodities.
The consumer, Samia Ibrahim, agreed on the existence of discounts of unprecedented rates on a number of varieties of local and imported vegetables, in more than one outlet recently, noting that these discounts were concentrated in items such as tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumbers.

In turn, the head of the Vegetable and Fruit Suppliers Group in Dubai, the head of "Farzana Trading Company", Mohammed Al-Sharif, said that the markets are currently witnessing extensive discounts on various varieties of vegetables, especially of local origin, referring to the great abundance of local agricultural season varieties in the market now. And the expansion of sales outlets in supplying different items, in addition to other reasons related to the increase in the supply of imported items, with the flow of supply operations during the current period.
He added that the discounts are clearly visible through the wholesale supply of items, most notably cucumber, tomato, cabbage, flower and lettuce, which is reflected in retail prices, whether through regular discounts or through expanded offers.
Domestic season
In the same context, the director of the "acid and sweet" commercial company for the supply of food and vegetables, Sherif Waheed, confirmed that the great abundance in pumping the varieties of the local planting season supported the reductions and expansion of the offered offers, pointing to the flow of imports from several countries, most notably Jordan and Egypt. And Turkey, in addition to neighboring Gulf countries.
Wahid expects the pumping operations to continue from the local agricultural season until the end of next April, which will meet the high consumer demand during the first half of next Ramadan, and in a way that greatly supports the abundance of supply.

For his part, the spokesman for the centers of the “Aswaaq” group, affiliated with the “Dubai Government Investment Corporation”, Abdul Hamid Al-Khashabi, said that it has been noticeable during the recent period that the supply of local agricultural products has increased, which contributed to the increase in the discount offers offered by the outlets and supply companies. .
He emphasized that the local season witnessed during the recent period, products that were not familiar or common before, most notably the locally-produced strawberries.
Lower cost
The director of sales at retail outlets, Vishal Ashok, confirmed that there is an abundance of supply of vegetable varieties, especially local season products, that reach the outlets at a lower cost, which contributed to offering extensive discounts on them, at rates that exceed the previous two years.
Imported and domestic
The CEO of Merak Food and Vegetable Supply, Issa Najeeb Al-Khoury, said that the reasons for the decline in the prices of some varieties of vegetables are the increase in the supply of local season products, in addition to the abundance of “imported” supplies, which will meet the needs of the markets in the stage of preparing for the Ramadan season.
The local season saw unusual products, most notably the strawberries of local origin.
