DEWA initiatives save 8.5 billion gallons of water in 12 years

The managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said that the rationalization programs and initiatives launched by the authority between 2009 and 2020 (12 years) have achieved cumulative savings within the target groups, amounting to 2.6 terawatt hours per hour of electricity and 8. 5 billion gallons of water, equivalent to saving one billion and 508 million dirhams, and reducing one million and 136 thousand tons of carbon emissions.

Al Tayer added that, in addition, the authority harnesses the latest disruptive technologies and the technologies of the fourth industrial revolution to provide smart and innovative services that facilitate the lives of customers, and help them raise the efficiency of their electricity and water consumption, reduce waste and wastage, immediately detect leaks, and deal with faults without referring to the authority.

Al Tayer stressed the authority's adoption of an integrated strategy to raise awareness of the importance of rationalizing consumption and involving all customers and community members in efforts to protect the environment and preserve natural resources.

Al Tayer added: “As a socially responsible government institution, (DEWA) annually launches many initiatives, programs and awards to encourage a conscious and responsible lifestyle in the consumption of electricity and water, including the (Smart Life) initiative, the (Our Home is Perfect) initiative, (Green Week) and ( Earth Hour), the campaign (Let's make this summer green), the Conservation Award, and others ».

He pointed out that the authority launched the smart response service to technical reports for electricity and water and the “notification of high water consumption” service, which since its launch until the end of February 2021 has contributed to savings of more than three billion and 700 million gallons of water and savings for customers exceeding 204 million dirhams.
