The Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, who received the award, said that the authority continues its efforts to contribute effectively to the process of sustainable development in the country, in fulfillment of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE. He added: “The fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex with a capacity of 900 MW with the independent product system constitutes a new addition in the record of our series of successful projects in the field of renewable and clean energy that use the best international technologies.” Founded by the authority in partnership with the consortium led by "ACWA Power" and the Gulf Investment Corporation, the fifth phase will be implemented.

He continued, "We got the lowest global price of 1.6953 US cents per kilowatt hour for this project, which will use the latest technology of two-sided photovoltaic panels, with a uniaxial solar tracking system to increase energy productivity."

Al Tayer stressed the continuation of implementing renewable and clean energy projects, guided by the vision and directives of the leadership, to contribute to strengthening the leadership of the UAE in all sectors.

He added: “We are proud to receive this award, which is added to the group of international prizes that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex has received, one of the tracks (Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050) that aims to provide 75% of the total energy production capacity in Dubai. Of clean energy sources by 2050 », noting that the complex is the largest solar energy complex in the world in one location, and its production capacity will reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030.

270,000 homes

The fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex will provide clean energy to more than 270,000 homes in Dubai, and will contribute to reducing 1.18 million tons of carbon emissions annually, and will be operated in phases starting from the third quarter of 2021.
