The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Council "Comprehensive Resources and Energy Study Group" is discussing the revision of the national "Basic Energy Plan" based on the government's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero as a whole by 2050. going.



At the meeting on the 11th, a person in charge of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will continue to strive to secure interests in fossil fuels such as LNG from the viewpoint of stable energy supply, while securing hydrogen and ammonia that do not emit carbon dioxide during combustion. The policy to proceed is also shown.



In response, the participating committee members commented that "Japan should take the lead in developing a technology called" CCS "that not only secures interests but also captures carbon dioxide and contains it deep underground." In addition, there was an opinion that "fossil fuel interests may reduce the asset value, so we should focus on the spread and expansion of renewable energy."



Based on these opinions, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will further deepen discussions on the revision of the Basic Energy Plan.
