An understanding between “The Economy” and “Dubai Economy” to enhance cooperation in innovation and intellectual property

The Ministry of Economy and Dubai Economy, represented by the Dubai Competitiveness Office, signed a memorandum of understanding regarding joint cooperation in the field of innovation and intellectual property from a competitiveness perspective, with the aim of exchanging studies, expertise and institutional experiences in the field of competitiveness, aligning the ministry's strategies with the Dubai economy, and enhancing joint cooperation to support competitiveness The UAE and Dubai in global indicators.

The agreement was signed by a representative of the Ministry of Economy, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, and for Dubai Economy, Secretary General of the Dubai Competitiveness Office, Hani Rashid Al Hameli.

The memorandum aims to strengthen the channels and frameworks of partnership between the ministry and the department during the next stage to improve the results of the UAE and Dubai on a number of global competitiveness indicators, and to support the efforts of the Emirate of Dubai to achieve advanced ranks on the map of the most competitive cities in the world, according to an institutional framework consistent with the obligations and specializations of each of them. And in line with the strategic plans of the two parties.

Al Saleh stressed the Ministry of Economy’s keenness on the importance of strengthening cooperation frameworks and developing the existing partnership between the federal and local government in order to achieve the vision of the state and the directives of the wise leadership on the importance of integrating roles between the concerned authorities in the country to develop the national economy and serve development policies and contribute to enhancing the reputation and competitiveness of the UAE, which is what It will be reflected in the growth of the business environment in the country, noting the importance of signing memoranda of understanding with local departments and their role in developing communication channels with various strategic partners.

For his part, Al-Hameli said that the memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of the directions of the rational leadership of the state in the matter of strengthening government integration to implement the plans and programs of the state during the next fifty years.

He added that the reference to innovation and intellectual property comes from the competitiveness perspective in the memorandum of understanding, as they represent important elements within the national axes of the UAE Vision 2021, which requires concerted efforts to support this direction.

He pointed to the importance of innovation as an engine of economic growth and productivity improvement, and as a basis for consolidating the transformation steps towards a knowledge economy as one of the requirements of the times to meet the challenges.

According to the memorandum, the Ministry and Dubai Economy, represented by the Dubai Competitiveness Office, will form a joint working group of specialists from both sides to discuss ways to develop areas of cooperation in accordance with the objectives of the memorandum.

The two parties will jointly develop initiatives and projects to enhance the classification of the UAE and Dubai on the Global Innovation Index, and raise recommendations and propose initiatives and programs to raise new levels of competitiveness indicators related to innovation and intellectual property.
