The time has come.

Finally.

These days, millions of school and daycare children are returning to the places they have not been allowed to visit for three months.

My three sons are also very happy, and it should be the same for me.

But when I see the situation, especially the schoolchildren, returning to, I can only shake my head in disbelief.

Schools in this country were empty for three months.

Plenty of time to worry about the moment teachers and children will return.

A lot of time to equip the facilities with effective hygiene concepts: ventilation systems, effective mask management and a rapid test strategy.

If there is something good about a lockdown, then it is a certain amount of calm to plan and implement.

In order to be perfectly prepared when it starts again.

That moment has now come.

But there can be no question of perfect preparation.

Have filter systems been installed on a large scale?

The industry itself announced in autumn that such systems could be delivered and installed within a few weeks.

But that didn't happen.

An estimated two to five percent of all classrooms are now equipped with it.

The restart is not unexpected

If you ask the state ministries about the status quo, you will be told that there will be many more in the coming weeks.

In the coming weeks?

The restart will now begin.

And it is by no means unexpected.

It was clear to everyone in this country that classroom teaching could start again at any time.

Nobody needs these devices in May or June.

The “we open all windows” method is just as effective when in doubt.

Now the children are sitting freezing in the classrooms at temperatures around zero degrees.

Are masks now being made available across the board for the students?

Maybe even FFP2 copies, which are recommended by many experts?

No.

Medical masks are not made available across the board, explains the Federal Parents' Council.

"There is nowhere a regular supply of it," complains Hans-Peter Meidinger, President of the German Teachers' Association.

Are there regular rapid tests for children and teachers?

No.

What should be the central component of a low-risk return of teachers and students is almost everywhere still in the project phase.

Here, too, almost nothing has happened in the past three months.

Now the authorities are lapsing into actionism.

There will soon be quick test concepts for everyone.

But if you ask the grassroots teachers, they have lost faith in real concepts.

The unused lockdown break has disaffected many.

The question of who is responsible for this misery is almost pointless.

Because whether the federal government, the federal states or their respective ministries, everyone blames the others in order to have an alibi.

What is certain is that all of them are constantly talking about using all their might to protect the health systems from overload.

Right from the start, they warned of schools as a possible source of infection.

How can it then be that for months one has hardly paid attention to these places and now, with seeing eyes, is jeopardizing everything for which the population has held back for almost a year?

Nobody thought it necessary to make schools as safe as possible for teachers and students.

So teachers, educators and children return anything but carefree.

You and your parents are left alone with their worries and fears.

This is an extremely poor basis to make up for all that has been missed in the past few months.

Where the lockdown is now being loosened

Many federal states are taking the first steps to open the door.

But the regulations differ from region to region.

We have summarized what applies where - and where the shops are already open.
