The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Digital Government have praised the data issued by the Digital World Report 2021, issued by the global WeR Social Foundation in cooperation with Hot Sweet, as the report sheds light on the digital lifestyle in the country through a data set that monitors the behavior of individuals and companies during The year 2020, which witnessed the Corona pandemic.

The report showed that the value of payments for digital deals in the UAE during 2020 amounted to $ 18.50 billion, and indicated that the average time an individual spends in the UAE on the Internet is 7 hours and 24 minutes a day, and that an individual spends 40 hours per week browsing the Internet via a smartphone, while The percentage of the population that plays electronic games via the Internet using available devices, 86%.

The report indicated that 320 million hours were spent by UAE residents on smart phone applications during 2020, and that the number of smart homes in the country reached 190,000 smart homes.

Regarding these results and data, Director General of the Communications Regulatory and Digital Government Authority, Head of the Digital Government of the UAE Government, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, said: “The emergency situation witnessed by the past year has led to it being a digital year par excellence, as websites, social media pages, portals and smart sites were the way. The only one through which the world's population was able to follow their lives, work and education, and the infrastructure of the communications and information technology sector was a decisive factor in enabling many sectors of society in the continuity of life in its various aspects of work, education, sale and purchase. The past period has proven that digital transformation has become an urgent necessity, not an urgent need. Just a technical luxury, and we in the UAE, following the directives of the wise leadership, were pioneers in this process, as most government agencies worked to develop their smart platforms and services, and we were pioneers in adopting and developing digital solutions that enabled us to overcome difficult circumstances and achieve many successes.

According to the report, 99% of Emirati community members are active on social media, 97.6% of the population own smart phones, 9.3% of the population own smart devices in their homes, while 5.2% of the population use augmented reality technologies.

The report stated that the high internet speeds in the country contributed to enhancing the digital presence of the various members of society, as the average speed of the internet through smart phones reached 177.52 megabytes per second, an increase of 104.6% over what it was in 2019, while the fixed internet speed reached 131. Megabyte per second, an increase of 44.6% over what it was in 2019.

The report also mentioned that Google ranks first in terms of the number of visits with a total of 244 million visits, while the YouTube platform ranked first as the most used social media platform with a rate of 87.4%.

It is noteworthy that the Communications Regulatory Authority and the Digital Government have taken a number of decisions and initiatives in support of the decisions of the country's leadership related to remote work, distance learning, enabling purchase and sale through digital platforms and providing government services remotely, as the Authority, in coordination with service providers, provided a set of applications to support remote work.
